he’s got a little thicker of an accent than im used to hearing, (its normally lobstermen and others who are more immersed in the culture who speak this way) I can hear it especially on words like water and lobster, but other than that I barely notice the accent. I guess everyone thinks their own accent is generic!

He is a true "Maineiac", as opposed to the imported term "Mainer".

His surname (Babb) is like most people who have been residing in northern new england for generations, English, i believe south west english. Northern New England and the south have the highest concentrations of english americans in the us. You can still hear it in the speech. The most numerous ancestry group is English in america - see 1980 census

This accent is surprisingly much more like a southern British accent than anywhere else in the USA.

The Maine accent sounds like a Bostonian mixed with a Southerner mixed with an Irish person cause Jesus Christ sometimes he sounds New England sometimes he sounds like he’s from the deep south and for 2 seconds he sounds like he should be in Game of Thrones

To my ears, the Down East accent is like a cross between the Eastern Massachusetts accent and that of English-speaking Quebeckers.

I was born and raised in Maine…that’s definitely a Maine accent.

Honestly, his accent's kind of odd, I don't think I've ever heard that kind of accent before until now. Way different from my accent but he seems like an affable guy and proud fisherman.

What accent? He sounds just like everyone from my neighborhood. I'm in exile in the South, and these guys really have an accent! Oh. My. Gawd! I was at the drug store, and the girl at the counter and I had trouble understanding each other. I apologized, and said I was from away. She asked, "Where?" I said, "From up North. Maine." Then she goes, "Oh! I've never met a Canadian before!" Sigh...

There a some different accents in Maine and THIS is a down east accent.

Now this American accent I could listen to all day - possibly biased, as the occasional word has an English sound.

More british version of New York accent

This is the real downeast accent, not the stuff you hear in movies. However, what most people don 't realize is there are at least 4 maine accents, of which this is just one! Inland Maine has a specific accent (think Tony Bennett from Downeast Dickering!), as does northern maine (Caribou-Ft Kent area) and yes even Portland and south (basically a mass accent).

American accents much are easier to understand compared to British accents. P.S. I'm not a native speaker.
